After taking over a year off to work on a solo album, singer/songwriter David White was eager to get the Glorious Dregs going again. He enlisted Matthew and Dean to join Johnny and him just as the global financial crisis was hitting full stride last fall. Gathering to practice in the surreal environment of weekly bailouts, plummeting stock markets and exploding deficits, a new direction slowly emerged for the band.

In their discussions before and after practice, they noted with disbelief that many of those who predicted this crisis were dismissed and ignored while so-called experts who were blindsided, never had their expertise called into question and were now entrusted to “fix the economy”. David and the rest of the band wondered when or if sanity would ever prevail when the political class peddles the nonsensical notion that America can borrow and spend its way into prosperity. With the national debt well over 11 trillion dollars, the Federal Reserve printing trillions more and the inescapable reality of higher taxes and inflation on the horizon, the Glorious Dregs realized that business as usual was no longer an option. If this meant the band needed to change focus and become “political”, well, so be it.

However, changing direction has been a major challenge. With much of the back catalog declared obsolete, the band had to come up with new material at an accelerated pace. They have been busy educating themselves, writing new songs, learning covers and in some cases, rewording them. They are currently in the beginning stages of recording some of this new material, which they will let trickle out through MySpace and perhaps YouTube before compiling an album.
